C A Penny, the well-performed Blenheim-trained mare from the same family as Bromac Lodge mare Juniper Bromac, lifted her earnings over the $80,000 mark with a win and a second at Manawatu this week.
A winner of the Listed 2016 Nevele R Sires Stakes Southern Mares Classic at Addington in a fast 1:55.3 mile rate over 1950m, C A Penny was race-timed in a faster 1:54.8 rate when second to Better B Amazed at Addington in the Gr. 2 Premier Mares Championship in February, 2018.
Her win in Tuesday's Post Office Hotel Wairarapa Cup at Manawatu for co-owner and trainer, Allan Shutkowski, and driver Jimmy Curtin, was her second provincial cup win there in recent months, having also taken out the Palmerston North Gold Cup on March 29.
C A Penny (7m Pay Me Christian-Julianne Bromac) has won now eight and been 11 times placed in 43 starts for $82,280.
She's in the twilight of her race career. Shutkowski, who races her with wife Petrina, says she will be retired to stud after a few more starts.
C A Penny's third dam Janelle Bromac (Holmes Hanover-Jan Bromac) is the grand-dam of Juniper Bromac (p3, 1:55.8, three wins), who was retired after only 11 starts due to injury.
Her win at Winton in 1:55.8 for the Ken Barron stable was at the time the second fastest winning mile by a three-year-old filly in Southland.
Belle Mach, the first foal from Juniper Bromac, is a qualified three-year-old filly in the Ken and Tony Barron stable.
Her Art Major yearling colt sold at the Australasian Classic Yearling Sale at Karaka in February.
Bromac Lodge recently sold Juniper Bromac’s colt foal by Mach Three.
Now 11, Juniper Bromac is in foal to He's Watching (1:46.8 & $1.1 million) and on the market for $10,000 (excluding GST).
"Juniper's" dam Jasmine Bromac (Falcon Seelster-Janelle Bromac) has a 100 percent starters-to-winners ratio.
Her seven foals to race are all winners, including fast Australian winner Jade Bromac (1:54.3, seven wins & $53,662), Jazz Bromac (1:58.9, six wins), Jonty Bromac (1:56.7, 14 wins & $63,553), Juniper Bromac (p3, 1:55.8, three wins), Jessica Bromac (one), Jingles Bromac (one) and Yasmine Bromac (one win, race-timed in 1:56.6 when 2nd to Gold Orchid in Cambridge Nevele R Heat on March 18).
"Juniper's" great grand-dam Janelle Bromac left four individual winners including $100,000 winner Justine Bromac (1:54.2, US, 25 wins & $109,222), now the dam of Just Macki (1:54.6, 12 wins & $25,467).
This is also the family of Charlou's Sister (1:54.2, US, 33 USA wins & $151,255) and former smart 1970s pacer, Montini Bromac (1:59.2, 13 wins from 30 starts in NZ & USA).
