C A Penny, the well-performed Blenheim-trained mare from the same family as Bromac Lodge mare Juniper Bromac, lifted her earnings over the $80,000 mark with a win and a second at Manawatu this week.
A winner of the Listed 2016 Nevele R Sires Stakes Southern Mares Classic at Addington in a fast 1:55.3 mile rate over 1950m, C A Penny was race-timed in a faster 1:54.8 rate when second to Better B Amazed at Addington in the Gr. 2 Premier Mares Championship in February, 2018.
Her win in Tuesday's Post Office Hotel Wairarapa Cup at Manawatu for co-owner and trainer, Allan Shutkowski, and driver Jimmy Curtin, was her second provincial cup win there in recent months, having also taken out the Palmerston North Gold Cup on March 29.

She's in the twilight of her race career. Shutkowski, who races her with wife Petrina, says she will be retired to stud after a few more starts.
C A Penny's third dam Janelle Bromac (Holmes Hanover-Jan Bromac) is the grand-dam of Juniper Bromac (p3, 1:55.8, three wins), who was retired after only 11 starts due to injury.
Her win at Winton in 1:55.8 for the Ken Barron stable was at the time the second fastest winning mile by a three-year-old filly in Southland.
