COURAGE UNDER FIRE SONS KEEP WINNING

Former good NZ winner, Torrid Bromac (7h Courage Under Fire-Tanisa Bromac) notched his 10th win in 30 USA starts for the year when successful in the opener at The Downs at Mohegan Sun, Pocono, last Sunday (NZ time), October 27.
 
Another strong advertisement for Bromac Lodge-based Stallions Australasia sire Courage Under Fire, Torrid Bromac has now banked ,061 for the year.
 
Entered on Sunday as a $15,000 claimer, the Darren Taneyhill-trained pacer settled third from the seven draw for driver Jim Morrill jun, led at the three-quarters and held by three-quarters of a length in 1:52.4 (fifths).
 
Torrid Bromac, who lowered his lifetime best to 1:50.4 (fifths) on a 1000m track last month, initially won eight of 38 starts for $64,663, mostly for the Steven McRae stable, before his sale to the United States.
 
His career earnings in North America are now closing in on $200,000.
 
Torrid Bromac’s dam Tanisa Bromac (TT, 1:58.4), was sold by Bromac Lodge last year to Halswell, Christchurch owner, Max Taylor, who raced Torrid Bromac in NZ.
 
“Courage” also sired impressive NZ Ashburton Labour Day winner, Dan Fernando, in NZ on Monday.
 
Dan Fernando (4g Courage Under Fire-Indigo Beach, by Beach Towel-Interchange), his grand-dam being a half-sister to former top pacer Elsu, was first-up since May for Woodend Beach trainers, Craig and Aimee Edmonds.
 
After settling back in the Mainland Wools Mobile Pace, Dan Fernando rounded the race off strongly late for in-form driver Matt Anderson, wearing down second favourite Tyron’s Bit Of A Lemon (John Dunn) in a smart 2:56.1 (mobile 2400m), 1:58.1 mile rate, with the leaders running their last 800m in 57s.
 
Dan Fernando was recording his second win from seven starts and will be a horse to follow for his four-old racing.
 
Australian-based son “Courage” son in Courageous Saint was another winner for the former six-time Derby winner at the weekend, rating a career best 1:52.1 over 1720m at Melton, Victoria on Monday.
 
Courageous Saint, a 5YO form Torridon (by Safely Kept from Armbro Aussie), trained by Vince Vallelonga and driven by former Canterbury horseman Ross Payne, overcame a second row barrier to win the rating 72-890 pace from former kiwi, Van Mara, by 6.4 metres.
 
Bred in Australia by Noel Watson, Courageous Saint has won 13 and been nine times place in 41 starts, for earnings of $80,840.
 
"Courage" was also represented by two metropolitan winners at Gloucester Park, Perth, on Friday night.
 
Warfare (7g Courage Under Fire-Flaming Yomax, by Ultimate Falcon), scored in the $18,000 opener for trainer Justin Prentice, and driver Gary Hall jun.
 
Warfare, after being wide early from the eight barrier, found a one-out and one-back trail and finished best to win by 1.4 metres in a strong 1:58.2 rate for the 2536m.
 
A 1:53.6 performer, this was his 16th win in 58 stakes, taking his earnings to $118,105.
 
Batavia On Fire (7g Courage Under Fire-Batavia Touchngo) chimed in with a minor upset win in the $18,000 3YO and older pace over 2096m from a stand.
 
Driven by Michael Grantham for tainer Giles Inwood, Batavia On Fire won by 10.1 metre in a 2:00.2 rate for his ninth win in 57 starts, taking his earnings to $64,562.
 
He has a best winning mile rate of 1:54.8.
