Quiet achiever Ellmers Image furthered a memorable weekend for Bromac Lodge-associate sire Falcon Seelster with a career best 1:49.9 mile at Menangle, New South Wales, on Saturday, November 18.
Ellmers Image, a good-mannered and solid performer in Canterbury for former co-owner and trainer Kevin James, has continued to mature like a good wine since relocating to Australia.
After winning three and being placed nine times from 31 NZ starts, Ellmers Image has won nine of 13 Australian starts, taking his career earnings to just over $100,000.
Ellmers Image, now five, continues to get faster, winning in 1:51 in June, and 1:50.7 in September.
But his lastest win, in the $20,000 The Office Diamond Stakes came at the expense of Group One performer and Interdominion-bound favourite, Let It Ride.
The Tim Butt-trained Let It Ride had to work wide from the 10 barrier for driver Anthony Butt, racing parked outside the leader over the last three quarters.
However, Ellmers Image after settling back on the outer for trainer-driver Amanda Turnbull, unleashed wide to win going away by 1.3 metres.
Ellmers Image, bred by Peter Ellmers, is from a useful six-win Silk Legacy mare in Ellmer Joy.
His sire Falcon Seelster still has semen straws available from Bromac Lodge this breeding season.
