PHIL BROMAC SECOND WINNER FOR “AMARETTO”

Bromac Lodge
Published by Jeff Scott in News · 19 September 2019

Phil Bromac, the third foal from former Bromac Lodge mare Amaretto Bromac (Falcon Seelster-Arma Class), has a 1:54.8 mile mark after winning at Menangle, NSW, on Tuesday, September 17.

It was a timely result for Amaretto Bromac's new Australian Goulburn Valley owner, Mrs Helen Head, after changing hands in July.

Amaretto Bromac, placed twice from only five starts, continues to advance the family of her champion grand-dam, the 1981 NZ Cup and 1983 Auckland Cup winner, Armalight (1:55.4, 18 wins form 36 starts & $277,520), and her great grand-dam, Ar Miss, a former top filly who won eight including 1971 NZ Sapling Stakes and 1972 NZ Oaks.

The family has been riding high internationally this year in North America, NZ and Australia.

Australian-bred None Bettor (1:48.8), a fifth line descendant of Ar Miss, has been an aged star in North America, winning 11 of 16 starts for ,970

Spankem, a fourth line descendant of Ar Miss, dominated the NZ 4YO scene and won the $1 million Miracle Mile in 1:47.7.

Muscle Factory, another descendant from Ar Miss, holding the Australasian 3YO mile record at 1:49.6 for a time.

A former $60,000 yearling, Phil Bromac was consistent in six North Island starts for the Ray Green stable, before heading to Sydney.

Now four, the Washington VC gelding was having his 12th career start and just his sixth for the Rickie Alchin stable.

Phil Bromac was closing in on a win with a second in a 1:53.8 mile at Menangle on September 10.

He made the most of the ace barrier on September 19, leading early, trailing, and finishing best for driver Jarrod Alchin.

Phil Bromac is the second winner for Amaretto Bromac, with her first to foal being the smart West Australian filly Angel Bromac (p2, 1:56.9, 4 2 & 3YO wins, $56,500), the runner-up in the 2016 WA Diamond Classic 2YO Final.

First Class, a colt by champion sire Bettor's Delight from Amaretto Bromac, was sold by Bromac Lodge at this year's NZ Yearling Sales for $50,000 to two of Spankem’s co-owners, Phil and Glenys Kennard.

Her last foal for Bromac Lodge is a yearling colt, named O B Legal, by Bromac Lodge's promoted semen base sire Courage Under Fire, the six-time Derby winner and no sire of brilliant pacers, Smolda, 1:50.6, Turn It Up, 1:54.5, and rising Australian star, Pandering, p2, 1:56.8).
