PLEASING RESULTS FOR BROMAC LODGE AT JEWELS

The first day of winter showed its teeth for the first Harness Jewels at Addington on June 1, 2019, but Bromac Lodge were warmed by pleasing results.
Bromac Lodge General Manager Lisa Fabri, and Zeuss Bromac’s other owners, Lynette Philpott (Slingsby Holdings Ltd), and David and Zachary Butcher, were “over the moon” after the lightly-raced colt’s storming finish at long odds for a Group One third in the $150,000 McMillan Equine Feeds 2YO Emerald.
Three races later, Turn It Up's expected Harness Jewels 4YO Emerald win kept the fires burning for his sire Courage Under Fire, who has chilled semen available from Bromac Lodge next term.
Zeuss Bromac, the first foal from the lightly-raced Zeta Bromac (Mach Three-Zante Beach), confirmed his promise second-up in the two-year-old colts and geldings division for co-owner, trainer and driver, Zachary Butcher.
Passed in for $20,000 at last year’s Australasian Classic Yearling Sale, the Bettor’s Delight colt overcame the outside of the second row to chase home the Mark Purdon and Natalie Rasmussen-trained first and second favourites, One Change and Flying Even Bettor, to complete a “Bettor’s”-sired trifecta.
The result had mutliple Bromac Lodge connections with winner One Change being from the unraced Falcon Seelster mare, Changedown, a half-sister to former NZ Cup winner Changeover (1:53.4) and a host of other winners including Changeover's sister and former Bromac Lodge mare Morad (1:58.8).
Both One Change and Allstars stablemate runner-up Flying Even Bettor are bred on the same cross, both being colts by Bettor's Delight from Falcon Seelster mares.
Zeta Bromac (p3, 1:55.5, five wins from only nine starts), the dam of third-placed Zeuss Bromac, was sold last year to Peter Grant, of Milton.
She has subsequently produced a colt by $2.4 million winner A Rocknroll Dance (p2, 1:49.2, 1:47.4), and is in foal to $2.7 million earner, Rock N Roll Heaven (p2, 1:50.4, p3, 1:47.6).
Zeta Bromac, a half-sister to (My) Zach Bromac (1:52, US), Zorro Bromac (1:56.6, Aust) and Zion Bromac (1:56.8, Aust), is from Zante Beach (1:59, 16 wins & 115,160).
The latter, Zante Beach, is herself a half-sister to former Tasmanian Derby winner Garnet River (1:50, US, 33 wins & $555,822); and other sub-2:00 winners, The Godine Machine (1:58.8, six wins), and Western Blaze (1:53.7, 25 wins & $167,310).
This is also the family of Garnet River (1:50, US, 33 wins & $555,822, Australasian Breeders Crown 4YO Final winner, Dont Hold Back (p2, 1:53.7, 12 wins & $213,435), Braeview Bomber (1:55.8, 13 wins & $110,245), Machiatto ((1:51.4, US; 18 wins).
Turn It Up was untroubled to lead throughout and justify his short $1.20 quote in the $150,000 IRT 4YO Emerald for co-trainer and driver, Mark Purdon.
By Courage Under Fire from an Australian Western Ideal mare in O Narutac Bella, Turn It Up stretched his record to 11 wins and four seconds from 15 starts, for $437,390.
This season's Auckland Cup winner is the early favourite to win both the New Zealand Cup, and Auckland Interdominion Pacing Championship, in November-December.
Courage Under Fire also featured as the damsire of 4YO Diamond runner-up, Divinia Bellezza, who unwound well late at long odds for second to $1.10 favourite, Elle Mac.
At Gloucester Park, Perth, on Friday night, Courage Under Fire sired his latest $100,000 winner when Warfare rated a fast 1:56.6 for the 2536m for a big win in a $18,000 pace.
Warfare, a six-year-old gelding from an Ultimate Falcon mare, was recording his 15th win from 52 starts.
