QUEENSLAND’S ANGUS GARRARD HAS FIRST WIN WITH KYLIE BROMAC

The Bromac brand played it's part in another first last week, with Angus Garrard scoring his first winning race-drive behind Kylie Bromac at Albion Park on Friday, June 28.

"This was another exciting win for us last week just before Zach (Butcher) won on Zeuss Bromac," said Bromac Lodge General Manager, Lisa Fabri.

"I told Gayle (Angus's mum) that dad (Lisa's father, the late Bob McArdle) would be so thrilled as he loved encouraging the young ones in the industry and had had a long relationship with the Garrard family."

Angus's parents, Daren and Gayle Garrard, run the internationally successful Garrard's Horse And Hound company.

Daren won first-up as a co-owner and trainer of Kylie Bromac at Redcliffe last October, after she had previously won twice for fellow Queensland trainer, Peter Greig.

His father and Angus's grandfather, Chris Garrard, was awarded an Order Of Australia Merit this year for his services to harness racing.

Angus was formerly one of Queensland's best mini pony trot drivers and competed in a NZ Kidz Kartz Cup at Addington.

After having to settle for several placings in his early switch as an official race driver, he saluted at his 13th race drive.

Still a student, Angus landed his first race winner just two days after his 16th birthday.

He gave Kylie Bromac (10-1) the perfect trail, outsprinting $2.20 favourite, Headwin, to win by 1.5 metres in a career best 1:55.6 rate fo the 1660m.

Kylie Bromac, a daughter of Falcon Seelster and Universal Kim (Holmes Hanover-Kim Bromac), was recording her fifth win in 46 starts, Taking her earnings to $19,395.

She is half-sister to fast Union Guy mare and now USA broodmare Ulrica Bromac (1:49.6, US), formerly NZ's fastest-bred female pacer.

A winner of 14 in NZ, Australia and North America, for earnings of $242,840, Ulrica Bromac has left a USA winner in Ave Ulrica (p2, 1:56.4; p4, 1:54.2; three wins & $30,556).

Universal Kim, who died after leaving Kylie Bromac, also gained notoriety by leaving useful trotter Una Bromac (eight wins & $85,222), herself the dam of other smart trotters in Escapee (1:57.4, 11 wins from 39 starts & $272,783), Winterfell (1:58.9, eight wins from 16 starts for $236,255), good Aust. winner Needle (1:57.4, 16 wins & $118,562) and last season's Australian 2YO trot winner, Caligula (t3, 1:57.2, five wins & $43,793).

Ursula Bromac, an unraced sister to Una Bromac, is the Live Or Die dam of another good trot winner in Ushaka Bromac (1:59.3, 16 trot wins & $144,985), and three pacing winners, including Put Your Lights On (2:00, 11 wins from 23 starts for $35,570).
