Shelby Bromac became the latest Bromac Lodge-bred Group Two winner after taking out the ,000 Triple Me Hobart Tasmania Cup Final in Hobart on Saturday, March 16.
The five-year-old son of champion sire Bettor's Delight and Fresco Denario (1:58.8, two wins) has found his niche across the Tasman after earlier winning twice and recording 14 placings in 31 starts for Winton trainer, Allan Beck.
Shelby Bromac has won five of six starts since being sold to clients of David Aiken's Victorian stable.
After tangling early, Shelby Bromac was sent forward three wide by driver Kima Frenning to take up the front-runner's role.
He held by 1.8 metres from the Dean Braun-trained War Dan in 3:15.3 for the stand start 2579 metres, a mile rate of 2:01.9.
Shelby Bromac's dam Fresco Denario (Artiscape-Campeche) is a half-sister to the 2004 Australasian Breeders Crown 3YO colts and geldings champ, Fake Denario (1:48.4, USA, 34 wins and $776,059).
Her first foal to race, Fabri Bromac, recorded a second from nine starts, with Shelby Bromac being her second to race.
Her third foal to qualify was Fresco Bromac (by Falcon Seelster), who qualified but was unplaced in five starts.
Fresco Denario was sold last year by Bromac Lodge to Irwell trainer John Versteeg, and partner, Bernie Hill.
Dreamo Denario (1:59.1, four wins), a half-sister by Soky's Atom to Fresco Denario and Fake Denario, left good winner Spero Denario (1:57.4, 11 wins and $93,329) and the minor winners, Our Eduardo Denario (2:00, four wins) and Goodtogo Denario (one win).
This is also the family of former tough NZ 3YO Slugger (p3, TT, 1:56.4, 10 wins), Grinaldi (1:57.3, 10 wins), Ross The Boss (1:50, US, 34 wins & $504,099), and former NZ mile 3YO record-holder, Kotare Mach (p3, 1:53).
CASSIUS BROMAC THIRD IN NZ KINDERGARTEN STAKES
Cassius Bromac, a gelding by He's Watching and the third foal from the unraced Cozette Bromac, was race-timed in just under 1:55 for the mile in his two-year-old debut at Wyndham on Saturday.
Trained by Brett Gray, Cassius Bromac chased home the favoured All Stars stablemates, Flying Even Bettor and Copperfield, in the Group Three $26,400 Alabar NZ Kindergarten Stakes.
He had to work early from the outside seven draw, being parked into the first turn, then easing to trail two and three back on the outer.
Winner, Flying Even Bettor, who eased to trail on the outer from the 900m, finished best in 1:54.4.
Cassius Bromac rallied well late to finish 2.6 lengths from the winner, being race-timed in 1:54.9.
