SILVER LINING FOR ENGLAND-BASED OWNER

There was a silver lining for England-based owner Peter Wilson at Forbury last Sunday when Lennox Bromac credited successful junior driver Kimberly Butt with her first training win.

The late Bromac Lodge founder, Bob McArdle, named the horse after his good friend Peter, by using Peter's first Christian name, Lennox.

The pair were to race the son of Falcon Seelster and Life's A Giggle together, but the horse was included in last year's Bromac Lodge dispersal sale.

Kimberly Butt, daughter of one of Australasia's most successful drivers in Anthony Butt, stepped in and bought the horse.

Bob McArdle's daughter, Lisa Fabri, then made an inquiry to Kimberly whether Mr Wilson could retain a share in the horse, to which Kimberly agreed.

Lennox Bromac is one of only three horses Butt has in work in her name, with the rest of the horses trained by her fiancé Jonny Cox.

Kimberly also let Jonny drive the horse as Lennox Bromac had shown a few "tricks" at times and liked him, so wanted to drive him race-day.

He found the front after 300m, eased to trail favourite Gilligan's Island on the final turn, paced a little roughly when balancing in the sprint lane at the 200m, but finished best to deliver by a neck.

Lennox Bromac, consistent with a fourth, third and fifth in his lead-up racing, was a winner at his fifth race start in a 2:06 mile rate for the stand start 2700m.

He’s bred to keep getting better, belonging to the same maternal family as 1993 New Zealand Cup winner Chokin (1:56.2, 34 wins & $1.8 million) and 2008 NZ Cup winner Changeover (1:53.4, 23 wins from 51 starts for $2.4 million).

A half-brother to last season's race-winning mare, Cullen's Joy (1:59.4,mile rate, 2000m), Lennox Bromac's dam Life's A Giggle is a three-win Life Sign half-sister to good winner, Swift Therapy  (1:59, 10 wins & $94,499).

Grand-dam Swift Mirage (1:57.5, 7 wins & $47,992) is a smart 1/2-sister to Falcon Forte (1:52.4), Chokin Lorado (1:59.8, 15 wins & $63,883) and Rose To Stardom  (TT, 1:58.2), the latter the dam of Flight Of The Falcon (1:58, Aust, 8 wins & $41,319).

Third dam Nell's Rose (1:59.4, 8 wins) was a sister to champion Chokin.

Forbury Park has been the multiple scene of firsts for Kimberly, who had her first driving win behind former subsequent Auckland Cup place-getter Saveapatrol when she won a Forbury junior drivers pace for her then employer, Mark Jones, on October 4, 2013.

She also racked up her 100th driving win at Forbury behind Imran Khan, bred by her grand-mother Jenny Butt, on June 20, this year.

Kimberly finished second to Sarah O'Reilly in this year's McMillan Equine Feeds NZ Junior Driver Championship. The South Island team were successful in taking out the Inter-Island Challenge.

Kimberly has also worked for Gavin Smith and her uncle Tim Butt.

Her trainer's colours have her family lineage written all over them, with the maroon coming through his father's side of the family, and the red representing her mother, Karen Prendergast, daughter of Dick Prendergast.

The latter formerly trained 1987 Dominion Handicap winner, Simon Katz, and many other winners, and also shaped the career of current top trot trainer, Phil Williamson.
