Tennyson Bromac, the seventh winner on the Friday, March 17, programme at Addington for the Allstars stable of Mark Purdon and Natalie Rasmussen, stepped into NZ Derby contention with the win.

The colt son of champion sire Bettor's Delight and Tallulah Bromac (Artiscape-Tandias Courage) played the iron horse in a rating 50-55 mobile 1950m pace, moving up parked over the last 1000m for driver Tim Williams.

The other Allstars Derby contenders are: Chase Auckland and Sicario, and two other of their winners on Friday in Anthem and Funatthebeach.

Tennyson Bromac, a luckless sixth from a horror draw in the $156,000 NRM Sires' Stakes Final at Addington in November (won in a record 1:52.5 rate by Chase Auckland), was able to wear down fellow Derby eligible Cullenburn on Friday, coming clear by a half a length in a 1:57.2 rate, the fastest win on the night.

Cullenburn, who ran third with a marker run in the NRM Sires' Stakes Final in November for the Brendon Hill stable, was also fresh-up on Friday, but couldn't hold "Tennyson" in the closing stages of their latest clash.

Tennyson Bromac, a $60,000 buy at the 2016 NZ Premier Yearling Sales, was notching his second win in seven starts for owners, Phil and Glenys Kennard, Jenny Grainger, Marie and Neville Lancaster, and Rex Knowler.

He joins Turbo Bromac (1:59.4, six wins & $25,180) as the first two to race from Tallulah Bromac, a qualified but unraced half-sister to big winners Tatijana Bromac (p3, 1:54.2, eight wins & $215,578), Te Amo Bromac (p3, 1:55.8, seven wins & $147,252, third in NZ Oaks), Tandias Bromac (1:53.7, 14 wins & ,431) and minor winner, Tenacious Bromac.

Another unraced daughter of Tandias Courage in Tania Tandias is the Falcon Seelster dam of promising two-win Victorian filly Zanibar Babe (p3, 1:56.9).

Tandias Courage (1:53.6, US), the grand-dam of Tennyson Bromac, was the 2000 Australian 2YO Pacing Filly Of The Year, winning 23 races for $265,237 in stakes.

Tandias Courage is a sister to Mother Courage, the 1999 Australian 3YO Filly of the Year and joint 2002 Australian Aged Pacing Mare of the Year, who won 30 races for $462,520 in stakes.
