Trotting purists have a royal opportunity to secure a three-quarter weanling blood brother to last Friday's impressive Auckland trot winner Habibi Inta, and top mares, Habibti (1:56.5) and Habibti Ivy (1:58.4), from Bromac Lodge.
The late Bob McArdle secured and bred the unraced Habibti Sadie (half-sister by Pegasus Spur to the above-mentioned trotters) to top French trot sire Love You, get a three-quarter blood brother to some of NZ's top squaregaiters.
Habibti Sadie's dam Ten To One has clicked well with Love You, also leaving the capable Lothario (1:57.4, 1950m), a winner of six for $69,302.
However, the Love You-Ten To One cross has resulted in the top mares, Habibti (16 wins & $352,775), the 2012 and 2013 NZ 2 and 3YO Trotting Filly of the Year respectively, and also the 2013 Australian Trotting Filly of the Year, for Woodend trainers David And Catherin Butt; and Habibti Ivy (nine wins form 21 starts for $186,340), a three-time NZ mares record holder for the Paul Nairn stable.
Ten To One, who won six herself, has left six foals to race, all winners.
Her other foal to have won to other sires include Ten Too (seven & $46,324), by Armbro Invasion; and Releven Dream (1:57.3 16 wins & $109,156), by Dream Vacation.
The Paul Nairn-trained Habibi Inta was only 0.5 of a second outside the NZ 2200m trot stand start record, held jointly by Lemond and Dr Hook, with his 2:46.9 run.
He stepped well off a 20m handicap in the rating 63 and faster trot settling three and two back on the outer, with driver Blair Orange sending him to a clear lead beginning the final 500m.
The $2.90 favourite won as he liked by 3 1/4 lengths, the leaders running their last 800m in 57.4s.
Habibi Inta, a winner of the Group Three NZ 2YO Trotting Stakes at the outset of his career and third in the Harness Jewels 2YO Trot Ruby.
At three, he was the runner-up to Enghien in the 2017 Northern Trotting Derby.
