Torrid Bromac, a son of former Bromac Lodge broodmare Tanisa Bromac (TT, 1:58.1), lowered his North American best to a fast 1:51.8 on a half-mile track at Yonkers Raceway, New York, on Sunday (NZ time).
Six to North American time but still five to Southern Hemisphere Time, Torrid Bromac led throughout from the two gate in a ,000 pace, drawing clear by three and a half lengths over his last 400m in 27.8s for driver Jason Bartlett.
Torrid Bromac's previous was 1:53.2 on a half-mile track in North America.
This was his seventh win in 17 starts in 2018, and his 19th career win, with earnings now over $130,000.
He formerly won eight of 38 NZ starts when prepared by Steve McRae, latterly having stints with Regan Todd and Gavin Smith.
The family has also been running hot in Australia in recent weeks with a 3YO relative in Squire (Somebeachsomewhere-Trinny Bromac, by Falcon Seelster-Tanisa Vance) notching his third win in his last five starts at Bankstown, NSW, on May 18.
Squire, sold out of the Mark Jones stable after qualifying at two last term at Ashburton, has a fastest winning mile rate in NSW of 1:57.5 (1609m).
Tanisa Bromac, besides leaving Torrid Bromac, has left Tijuana Bromac (1:57.5, 15 wins & $124,897), (Black) Mr Mach (1:56.5, nine wins & $84,109), the two-race winners, Trinity Bromac, and Twitter Bromac.
Grand-dam Tanisa Vance, a sister to Play More (1:52.2, US), and half-sister to Grinaldi (1:57.3, 10 NZ wins), is the dam of five individual winners, including former 10-race NZ winner Ross The Boss (1:50, US), who added another 24 wins in the US for $404,654.
The family has also produced other top performers such as Tallyho Bromac (1:53.7), Kotare Jaeger (p2, 1:56.9), Habeebee (1:53.6, US), former NZ 3YO mile record holder Kotare Mach (1:53), Kotare Yael (1:50.8, US), Fake Denario (1:48.4, US) and Tullow (1:50.2, US).
