ZACHARY BUTCHER’S FIRST TRAINING WIN IS A “BROMAC”

Bromac Lodge General Manager Lisa Fabri was thrilled the Bromac brand provided young Pukekohe horseman Zachary Butcher with his first training win at Auckland on Friday night.
The achievement came when Zeuss Bromac led over the last 1300m to hold another smart juvenile, Perfect Stride, in a 1:57.9 rate (1700m) at Alexandra Park on June 28.
"This is a magic connection for Bromac," Mrs Fabri said.
"The McArdles' and the Butchers' have been connected for three generations and this would have given Bob (McArdle, the late Bromac Lodge proprietor) so much joy!"
She was thankful for Zachary, and his father David Butcher, taking Zeuss Bromac after the Bettor's Delight colt was passed in for $20,000 at last year's Australasian Classic Yearling Sale.
"Size doesn't always count," added Mrs Fabri.
Zeuss Bromac, the first foal from speedy lightly-raced Mach Three-Zante Beach filly Zeta Bromac (1:55.5, five wins from nine starts), is the first horse trained by top driver, Zachary Butcher.
Members of the Butcher family all partnered Zeta Bromac during her nine three-year-old starts, when racing for former Patumahoe trainer, Geoff Small.
Zachary Butcher was a former top junior driver for the Barry Purdon, before teaming up with Lincoln Farms and the Ray Green stable last year.
He is now one of NZ's most sought after drivers, mirroring the deeds of his dad, David.
Zeuss Bromac is raced by David and Zachary Butcher, along with Bromac Lodge and Slingsby Holdings Ltd.
"It’s also lovely as we own it with our very dear friend Lynette Philpott (Slingsby Holdings)," said Mrs Fabri.
"We had Zeta, Tatijana, Te Amo etc, with Lynette, and she also owned Howard Bromac."
Zeuss Bromac continues to build toward the Australasian Breeders Crown in Victoria in August.
He has now had just the three starts.
Zeuss Bromac finished a close luckless second on debut at Auckland on May 17, before his strong late run from the outside of the second row for third to One Change and Flying Even Bettor in the Group One $150,000 McMillan Equine Feeds 2YO Emerald at Addington June 1.
