Courage Under Fire, the champion racing colt and now sire of superstar NZ 4YO Turn It Up (1:54.5), will again have chilled semen available from Bromac Lodge next season.
Bromac Lodge General Manager Lisa Fabri is pleased to offer Courage Under Fire at $4000 (plus GST), payable on a live foal.
The inspiration of securing stored semen from Australia from Courage Under Fire was visionary with Courage's latest star son Turn It Up sweeping virtually all before him this term.
Turn It Up, trained at Rolleston by Mark Purdon and Natalie Rasmussen, is a dominating favourite for the $150,000 IRT 4YO Harness Jewels Emerald at Addington on Saturday.
The gun pacer has only raced 14 times for 10 wins and four seconds, for $362,390 in stakes.
Turn It Up was on a winning spree in the spring this term, before running second to Cruz Bromac in the Group One NZ Free-For-All at just his seventh career start.
Despite being a newbie to the open class scene, he went on to win the Group Two Franklin Cup in December, and created history by takng out the Group One Trillan Trust Auckland Cup on December 31 at only his ninth ever start.
Freshened after taking out the Group Two Waikato Flying Mile on January 11, Turn It Up showed his exceptional qualities returning from three months by breaking 4:00 (3200m) on a rain-affected track to win the Group One $98,000 Breckon Farms/All Stars Racing Stables Easter Cup at Addington on April 5.
Despite the untimely death of Courage Under Fire in July 2017, stored semen in Australia had been taken if his premature demise eventuated.
The former six-time Derby winner was himself both a NZ 2 & 3YO Pacer of the Year, the Victorian Horse of the Year at 3, and NZ 4YO Pacer of the Year.
A winner of 41 of 56 career starts for $1.5 million, Courage Under Fire has stamped himself as a leading sire of star performers with 13 crops racing, leaving over 700 winners (100-plus in 1:55) and the winner of over $40 million.
Prior to Turn It Up's domination, "Courage" hit the jackpot as the sire of 2015 Perth Interdominion champ, Smolda (1:50.6, 32 wins & $2.5 million), whose list of achievements also includes wins in the Hunter Cup, Len Smith Mile, Ballarat Cup (twice), NSW Derby, Harness Jewels 3YO Emerald in a record 1:52.1, and ran seconds in the NZ Cup, Victoria Cup and Miracle Mile.
Earlier, "Courage" sired another Group One Hunter Cup winner in 2012 winner Choise Achiever (1:57.6, 13 wins & $624,557), 2009 NZ Derby winner Sleepy Tripp (1:56.8, 12 wins & $779,188), 2013 NZ Free-For-All winner Pembrook Benny (1:53.6, 22 wins & $907,890) and 2010 Aust. Derby winner Lanercost (1:52.6, 30 wins & $509,121).
He's also the sire of other big-winning male pacers, Flem N Em (1:49.6, US, 51 wins & $920,272), Franco Jamar (1:51.2, Aust), 2010 Victoria Derby winner Courage To Rule (1:51.1, Aust), Talk To Me Courage (1:51.4, US), Motu Crusader (1:52.9, Aust), Courage Tells (1:54.1, Aust), Days Of Courage (1:53.2), Glendowan (1:52.1, Aust), John Of Arc (1:53.4, Aust), Jason Rulz (1:54.6), Denny Crane (1:51.8, US), Torrid Bromac (1:51.8, US), Alta Orlando (1:54.5) and Carter Bromac (p3, 1:52.4, Aust).
"Courage's" top female pacer is Australian mare Carlas Pixel (1:49.8, 19 wins & $480,128), winner of the Group One 2018 NSW Ladyship Mile and Australian Breeders Crown 4YO Mares Final.
He's left the other stand-out fillies include former NZ record-holder, Lancome (1:52.5, 13 NZ wins & $509,121), Itz Cherry Ripe (1:51.4, US), Artic Fire (1:51.6, US), Whirily School (1:53.6, Aust), Glenferrie Alexis (1:55.9), Secret Potion (1:57.5) and Courageous Annie (1:52.6, Aust).
