GROUP TWO BROMAC TERANG CUP WINNER

Code Bailey, a 5YO Christian Cullen gelding from the defunct Taffeta Bromac, who died four years ago, added the Group Two $50,000 Terang Pacing Cup to his record on Saturday, February 15.

A close-up fourth in the Group One Hunter Cup at his previous start for the Margaret Lee stable, Code Bailey made every post a winning one at Terang, dashing clear on the home turn for driver Jason Lee.

Code Bailey proved much too strong for fellow NZ-breds, Pat Stanley and AG's White Socks, winning by 17.9 metres.

He paced the mobile 2680m in a strong 3:14.5 (1:56.8 mile rate), quickening over his last 800m in 54.5s and his closing 400m in 27.1s.

Code Bailey lifted his career earnings over the $225,000 mark with Saturday's win, his 17th from 43 lifetime starts.

This was his third win from just six starts this season.

Code Bailey's dam Taffeta Bromac, (Badlands Hanover-Trapiche), bred by Bromac Lodge with John Green, won three of 35 starts for $19,931, earlier left another good winner in the Bromac Lodge-bred Trust My Judgement (by Falcon Seelster), who won 12 and $95,650.

The elevated Group race form of Code Bailey has refreshed the fortunes of his family starts, the 1995-96 New Zealand Cup winner Il Vicolo (31 wins & $1.5 million).

Taffeta Bromac's dam Trapiche, was a half-sister by Pacific Rocket to Il Vicolo and Vicario, the one-win dam of former NZ Sires Stakes 3YO winner Final and AG Hunter Cup winner, Stunin Cullen (1:54.1).

This is also the family of former Auckland Cup and NZ Messenger winner Gotta Go Cullen, sire of the lightly-raced in-jury-plagued Southland star, U May Collect (1:52.1, seven wins from eight starts).
