RICHLY-BRED ZEUSS BROMAC LIVING UP TO BREEDING

Bromac Lodge
Published by Jeff Scott in News · 18 January 2019

Zeuss Bromac, the first foal from speed filly Zeta Bromac (p3, 1:55.5, five wins from nine starts), showed a smart turn of foot in his two-year-old qualifier at Pukekohe on Tuesday, January 15.

He held well for a 1:59.5 (1609m) trial win for rookie trainer and top young reinsman, Zachary Butcher.

A colt by champion sire, Bettor's Delight, Zeuss Bromac was virtually unwanted at the Australasian Classic Yearling Sale last February but attracted some interest from long-time Bromac Lodge supporter David Butcher, and son Zachary.

Passed in for $20,000, Zeuss Bromac subsequently entered an ownership partnership between vendors, Bromac Lodge and Slingsby Holdings, with the Butchers’.

The colt is attracting buyer interest after Tuesday's trial.

Zeuss Bromac worked to the lead into the first turn, eased to trail, and moved out to swish past leader Dr Susan entering the home straight.

He held late finisher Line Up, a Bettor's Delight colt from Beach Parade in the Ray Green stable, by a neck.

The trial was run at a solid clip throughout, the leaders running their last 800m in 60s and final 400m in 28.9s.

Zeuss Bromac has a strong pedigree page, with dam Zeta Bromac being a smart lightly-raced Mach Three half-sister to fast USA winner (My) Zach Bromac (1:52) and other useful winners in Zorro Bromac (1:56.6, Aust) and Zion Bromac, a winner of two of seven starts last season for the Allstars stable, including a 3:13.4 winning run over 2600m.

Zoe Bromac, an unraced Red Red Hanover half-sister to Zeta Bromac, has left smart early Australian winners in Zumba Bromac (1:58.1h, eight Tasmanian wins) and last season's Bathurst Gold Tiara heat winner Glenledi Babe (1:56.8 mile rate, 1730m, one win and four placings from six 2YO starts).

Zuess Bromac's grand-dam Zante Beach (1:59, 16 wins & 115,160), is a Fake Left) half-sister to former Tasmanian Derby winner Garnet River (1:50, US, 33 wins & $555,822); and other sub-2:00 winners, The Godine Machine (1:58.8, six wins), and Western Blaze (1:53.7, 25 wins & $167,310).

Braeview Express, another half-sister to Zante Beach, has also bred on, leaving Australasian Breeders Crown 4YO Final winner, Dont Hold Back (p2, 1:53.7, 12 wins & $213,435), Braeview Bomber (1:55.8, 13 wins & $106,543) and Machiatto (1:53.7, mile rate, 1720m, 12 wins & $85,689).

Another half-sister to Zante Beach in the unraced Trojan Fire is the Bettor's Delight dam of Concealment (1:55.3, six wins from 15 starts for $60,580), including the 2017 Australiasian Breeders Crown 2YO colts and geldings Silver.

SHELBY BROMAC WINS AUST. DEBUT

Former Winton pacer Shelby Bromac (5g Bettor's Delight-Fresco Denario) was a first-up winner in Victoria for the David Aiken stable on Wednesday, January 16.

Shelby Bromac, formerly twice a winner for Winton trainer Allan Beck, justified a short $1.70 quote at Geelong, winning a C1 pace over the 2100m in a 1:57.1 rate.

Driven by Kima Frenning, Shelby Bromac raced wide early, settled three back in the running line but locked wheels when making his run, finishing the race with a flat tyre.

He's the second to race and the first winner for dam Fresco Denario (Artiscape-Campeche), a 1:58.8 two win mare, now owned by Ellesmere trainer John Versteeg, and partner, Bernie Hill.

Fresco Denario is a half-sister to the 2004 Australasian Breeders 3YO champ, Fake Denario (1:48.4, US, 35 wins & $776,059).

Dreamo Denario (1:59.1, 4 wins), a Soky's Atom half-sister to Fresco Denario and Fake Denario, left three indivdual winners including Spero Denario (1:57.4, 11 wins & $93,329).

This is also the family of former tough NZ 3YO Slugger (p3, TT, 1:56.4, 10 wins), Grinaldi (1:57.3, 10 wins), Ross The Boss (1:50, US, 34 wins & $504,099) & former NZ mile 3YO record-holder, Kotare Mach (p3, 1:53).

LINCOLN ROAD WINS FIFTH ON END

Lincoln Road (4g Sir Lincoln-Tania Tandias, by Falcon Seelster-Tandias Courage)) stretched his unbeaten run in Queensland to five straight at Albion Park, Brisbane, on Tuesday.

Driven by Brendan Barnes, Lincoln Road led throughout as a short $1.20 favourite in a C5-7 pace over the 2138m, drawing clear to win by 3.6 metres in a 1:55.6 rate.

ARMA INDIE FAMILY WINS AUST. DOUBLE

The family of Perth-bound filly Arma Indie, and Bromac Lodge broodmare Amaretto Bromac, scored a winning double in New South Wales and West Australia over the last five days.

Arma Naughty, trained and driven by James Rattray, rated 1:57.9 over the 1710m to win at Goulburn, New South Wales, on January 13.

The four-year-old daughter of Somebeachsomewhere and Arma The One (Badlands Hanover-Ultimate Arma, by Holmes Hanover-Armalight), was winning her fifth race from 16 starts.

Arma Naughty, a half-sister to Arma The Gun (1:51.9), Arma Hotshot (1:55.6) and Armalife (1:58.6), has a fastest winning mile rate of 1:55.5 as a three-year-old over 1609m at Menangle.

Meanwhile, Arma ORourke (7g Live Or Die-Trigg Beach, by Courage Under Fire-Arma Antoinette, by Holmes Hanover-Arma Class, by Talk About Class-Ar Miss), notched his sixth win from 22 starts at Northam, West Australia, on January 15.

Arma ORourke, trained by Donald Harper, led and held as a $2.20 favourite over the 2190m, winning in a 2:01.3 rate. He has a fastest winning mile rate of 1:56.7.

SESHNY BROMAC’S FIRST FOAL

Rocknroll Legend, a son of Rock N Roll Heaven and the first foal from Seshny Bromac (1:53.9), a daughter of McArdle and former Bromac Lodge broodmare gem, Sabrina Bromac, was back in winning form at Mildura, Victoria on Tuesday.

A five-year-old gelding, trained by Aaron Bain, Rocknroll Legend won as a $1.30 favourite in a C0 pace over the 2190m trip, winning by 6.2 metres in a 2:02.9 rate.
